Two days, hour by hour

Day 1 — Building the Rover

From concept to a working rover.

9:30 - 10:00Introduction to space robotics, real Mars and Moon missions; basics of physical computing

10:00 - 11:15Introduction to Arduino and programming; hands-on hardware interfacing

11:15 - 12:30Rover navigation and suspension systems; build and test navigation

12:30 - 13:00Break

13:00 - 14:30How rovers detect obstacles; build a full obstacle-avoiding autonomous rover

14:30 - 15:00Demonstration of rover communication

15:00 - 16:00Add a display system to show sensed data

16:00 - 16:30Testing the rover for the mission: navigation and sensing

Day 2 — Mission Ready

Advanced capabilities, then a full mission.

9:30 - 10:00Challenges being solved by space technology and simulations

10:00 - 11:30Build a beacon detection system; the rover finds targets using light

11:30 - 12:30Add a temperature and humidity sensing payload

12:30 - 13:00Break

13:00 - 14:00Define the mission objective and integrate rover systems
